A dream of mist and legend. The bard Ossian sings on the Celtic moors as incense rises toward a Scottish sky. An orthodox incense — warm, creamy, mystical — that has crossed the centuries without ageing a day.

In the 1760s, the Scottish writer James Macpherson published what he claimed were the chants of Ossian, a Gaelic bard of the 3rd century. They were largely his own compositions, but the effect on Europe was seismic: Goethe wove them into The Sorrows of Young Werther. Ingres painted The Dream of Ossian for the ceiling of the Emperor’s chamber at the Tuileries. And Napoleon himself carried the volume through all his military campaigns, into the snows of Russia. The Poems of Ossian embodied the Romantic ideal: wild nature, melancholic heroism, the song of the dead and the heroes in the Celtic mists.
Rêve d’Ossian is faithful to this vision. The opening is that of a cold incense: olibanum and maritime pine, like the smoke of a campfire on a windswept moor. The heart, warmer and creamier, reveals cinnamon, benzoin, elemi, tonka bean, guaiac wood and opoponax — a balsamic accord of great gentleness, like a tale murmured by the fireside. The base of balsams, myrrh and incense completes the composition in an almost mystical depth — orthodox incense in its noblest form.
