The scent of freshly cut hay is, chemically, that of coumarin — a molecule found naturally in tonka bean and clover. In 1882, coumarin was used for the first time in fine perfumery, giving birth to the fougère family. Oriza’s formula (1886) pays direct homage to this founding act. The opening combines star anise, mint and angelica. The pastoral heart — hay, clary sage, clover, sainfoin — is a meadow of Île-de-France captured in soap lather.
