The Isle of Beauty possesses an unmistakable scent — that of its maquis, a dense, wild garrigue of strawberry trees, cistus, myrtle and immortelle, whose essential oils evaporate under the sun and create what sailors call “the scent of Corsica,” perceptible from the sea, several miles from shore. It is this fragrance that the young Napoleon Bonaparte breathed in the hills of Ajaccio.
L’Eau de Corse is part of the “Extrait Concentré d’Eau de Cologne Supérieure” collection — those concentrated colognes that Oriza L. Legrand has been crafting since the 19th century, richer and longer-lasting than classic eaux de cologne. The opening is a hesperidic firework: vivid lemon, juicy mandarin and orange peel form a trio of dazzling Mediterranean freshness. The heart pairs mint with orange peel in a more aromatic accord. The base of bitter orange and oakmoss anchors the freshness in a vegetal depth.
