The mignardise carnation — that small, fringed flower with scalloped petals — was the favourite of the Versailles gardens under Louis XV. Oriza pays it a powdery, refined homage of nuanced elegance.
Louis XV, known as “le Bien-Aimé,” was the Oriza Perfumery’s first patron. His court — “the Perfumed Court” as it was known across Europe — cultivated the art of fragrance to the point of obsession. Each day of the week had its designated perfume, and the gardens of Versailles overflowed with flowers grown for the King’s olfactory pleasure alone.
The mignardise carnation was among his favourites: a small flower with fringed petals, vivid colours and a sweet-spicy scent. Oeillet Louis XV pays it a tribute of great subtlety. The opening is sparkling — vivid pink berries, luminous mandarin — like a curtsey in the salon. The heart is a bouquet of remarkable floral richness: the mignardise carnation mingles with carnation absolute, white orchid, iris, rose and spicy clove. The base of pepper, cedar and blond woods lends the whole a staying power and depth that anchor the floral sweetness in an elegant woody structure.
