Venus, goddess of beauty, could not have chosen a more fitting plant: verbena, whose Latin name Verbena designated the sacred boughs on Roman altars. Fresh as a spring, lemony as a summer morning.
Lemon verbena (Lippia citriodora) is the grande dame of French freshness. Brought from South America in the 18th century, it immediately conquered the gardens of Provence and the dressing tables of elegant women. Its fragrance — lively, sparkling, irresistibly clean — became the very symbol of refined hygiene.
Oriza L. Legrand created Verveine de Vénus in 1862, during the Second Empire of Napoleon III, as Paris was being transformed under Baron Haussmann. In ancient Rome, verbena was consecrated to the goddess of love, and the priestesses of her temples rubbed the altars with it to purify them.
The verbena bursts forth from the very first contact with water — vivid and lemony, carried by nuances of lemon zest and petitgrain. The generous, unctuous lather, thanks to the shea butter, leaves on the skin a clean, luminous trail. A soap for every day, for every moment.
