The full name of this fragrance is borrowed from a French pastoral novella from the 18th century — a tale of love and nature in which two lovers meet in a garden filled with turtle doves and perfumed with roses. Oriza L. Legrand created this composition in 1913, on the eve of the Great War, like a last sigh of the Belle Époque.
The opening is surprising and captivating: black pepper, sharp and vibrant, intertwines with ivy leaves in a green, spicy accord that radically departs from conventional roses. The heart is the garden of Zelmis: silky geranium, red peony with accents of rustling silk, and May rose in full bloom — fleshy, deep, of an almost painful beauty. The base reveals Turkish rose absolute, the richest and most opulent of all roses, gilded by saffron — that most precious of spices, of which a single gram requires the harvest of 150 crocus flowers.
