GentryJockey Club

The “Jockey Club” is, in perfumery, a genre unto itself: a classic masculine accord born in the 19th century in the wake of London and Parisian gentlemen’s clubs. The traditional Jockey Club accord blends flowers (rose, jasmine, tuberose) with leathery, woody notes, in a balance between floral elegance and assertive virility.

Oriza L. Legrand’s version, named “Gentry” (the English landed gentry), pushes the accord in a darker, more contemporary direction. The opening is precious: creamy ylang-ylang and saffron — that royal spice priced higher than gold — compose a duo of contained opulence. The heart is a refined leather: iris pallida — the finest variety of iris, cultivated in Tuscany — mingles with leathery notes and birch essence in a virile, powdery accord. The base of sandalwood, tonka bean and vetiver is a woody foundation of great depth.
