Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides) is a tropical grass whose tangled, tenacious roots yield one of nature’s most complex scents: at once earthy and fresh, smoky and clean, woody and green. Bourbon vetiver (from Réunion Island) is considered among the finest in the world, with cleaner, more aromatic facets than its Haitian or Javanese cousins.
The eau de parfum Vétiver Royal Bourbon (1914) is a tribute to this exceptional raw material. The opening is fresh and aromatic — bracing peppermint, herbaceous thyme — like a breath of pure air before the tropical storm. The heart is a landscape of contrasts: cistus labdanum, resinous and amber, intertwines with powdery iris, earthy Bourbon vetiver and creamy sandalwood, in an accord of great depth. The base is dark and smoky: cade essence (juniper tar), resinous styrax and oakmoss compose an earthy, virile foundation.
