Jardinsd'Armide

Iris & Powdery Florals

The enchantress Armida, in Tasso’s Jerusalem Delivered, created a garden so beautiful, so fragrant, that no knight could resist. This fragrance is the gateway — an opulent, powdery, irresistibly seductive bouquet.

The allure of an enchanted garden.

In 1581, the Italian poet Torquato Tasso published La Gerusalemme Liberata — one of the great epics of Western literature. At the heart of the tale, the sorceress Armida creates an enchanted garden of unreal beauty to ensnare the Crusader knight Rinaldo in the bonds of desire. Louis XIV himself chose this subject for Lully’s opera (Armide, 1686), which became one of the jewels of French Baroque music. Gluck gave an equally celebrated version in 1777. “The Gardens of Armida” became, in French culture, the very synonym of an irresistibly seductive paradise — a place where all the senses are gratified, where fragrance is a weapon of charm.

The eau de parfum Jardins d’Armide is its olfactory translation. The opening is a Belle Époque salon: old rose, luminous orange blossom and iris powder — a trio of aristocratic femininity. The heart is the enchanted garden: Florentine iris, wild violet, cascading wisteria and Indian carnation compose a floral bouquet of almost intoxicating opulence. The honeyed, musky base — honey, almond, tonka bean — lends the trail an addictive sweetness.
