On December 6th, in Alsace and Lorraine, Saint Nicholas knocks at the door. He smells of cinnamon, gingerbread and childhood.
Before Father Christmas, there was Saint Nicholas — Bishop of Myra in the 4th century, patron saint of children. In Metz, Nancy and Strasbourg, children receive Mannele, oranges, walnuts and cinnamon biscuits. It is this atmosphere — warm, sweet, imbued with a tender nostalgia — that the Saint-Nicolas soap captures. A cinnamon biscuit accord — gourmand, comforting — where the cinnamon is not sharp but gentle, round, enveloping.
